Six or Seven thoughts on a Saturday - Blogtoberfest 2013 Day 27

A ramble through my mind on a slow Saturday afternoon.

1. My son has given me some ideas for getting myself organised ready for starting my training/uni course in January. He suggests evernote for my .......(er now what was that he said?); and dropbox for my.....er documents I think. He also suggests I resurrect my delicious account for whatever it was I used it for before I got distracted and it got all clogged up with all those interesting articles I never had time to read.

Thought number one therefore is.....How do I become more organised when my on line world is so full of interesting things and apps and websites etc etc? How can I simplify? More to the point how can I be ruthless and prune back all of the overgrowth of information without losing important (very very important sources of information and delight?). How can I focus down to my studies and still be me? Oh and how on earth can I stop my rambling mind from going at top speed from one thing to another all of the time? Am I a hopeless case?

Well I think this one thought and all it's sub-thoughts is more than enough for today. Don't you?  Six or seven might just cause my brain to explode. I am off to read about map makers and Gandhi in a "real" paper newspaper offline and on the sofa.

  1. It is good to be organized before you start the studies. Students of today have so many more resources than a few decades ago. I guess the key is not becoming distracted by all the resources out there. Carrying around a good mini calendar helps you write things down that are key like deadlines and I think is still a good plan so long as you like to look at paper calendars and actually do it.

Personally I like to see months ahead of me and "plug" things in events, deadlines for papers, exams, etc.. I used this approach in the olden days and if I was a student now I might still prefer that to calendar only in my phone (though it has some great features too). Much like I still prefer reading a paper book though I've got dozens of books on my e-reader most of which are unread. From time to time I will read a few pages on my e-reader but I will almost always pick up a paper book. I know there are others who prefer the electronic versions of things. I hope you find some system and approach that works for you. Whatever the case, you are definitely ahead of things if you are thinking about it all now :-)

    1. I think much of our study will be done online Penny. I also know how like a magpie I am - and before I know it I will be overflowing with "useful" resources! I am not very organised in my thinking so need to prepare now. I think a mini calendar and a wall calendar will be very useful for me.
