There Goes March

Phew!

*Collapses in a heap!*

There has been little energy for words for my blog this month. I started a post on March 6th which is still in my drafts today! There has been lots of fear, struggle, physical and emotional exhaustion - created I am ashamed to say by my own self and my own out of control "monkey mind."

Still. Here I am back, and here are some of my more peaceful, wordless and wondrous March moments. I hope that you had some similarly peaceful and wondrous March moments too.

Gently Unpacking - 10 minutes a day for 37 days

How do geese know when to fly to the sun? Who tells them the seasons? How do we humans know when it is time to move on? As with the migrant birds, so surely it is with us, there is a voice within if only we would listen to it, that tells us certainly when it is time to go forth into the unknown.

I've just finished reading this book from cover to cover - it is my first thirsty read of it, in fact for the past few days I have been unable to put it down. Now I shall go back to spend time doing the exercises. I am starting on Page 162 in the section entitled "Unpack your boxes", where Patti suggests that for 10 minutes over the next 37 days, we review our life so far, through our saved letters, photos and other memorabilia we've collected over the years.

She suggests also that we sort the items into piles, one which contains things... "that identify what you are holding onto from the past that no longer serves you, for example people, things or stories that hold you back and in some way symbolise a you that you no longer want to be". She then suggests a ritual burning of these items.

I was looking forward to getting out that huge stack of letters I've saved for so long. Then when I went looking for them, I realised that I had sorted through them(kind of) last year or the year before, and that many of them had gone into the bin in an attempt at decluttering. I feel kind of sad now that they have gone - the letters - full of all those memories and words that others, who loved and valued me then, had spent time writing. In fact I feel tears pricking at the back of my eyes at the thought that I threw them out.

This is what is left.......

Memories - March 2012
Looks like I decided to get rid of most of the letters and just kept postcards and other bits and bobs.

Moving on is difficult sometimes isn't it? I am finding it difficult to read my inner voice right now. Is it just the habitual nagging whisper that maybe the grass would be greener if I made a leap? Or is it truly that it is time to move on? I read somewhere some time ago that we are all programmed to want change in different degrees....some of us needing it more frequently than others. Anyway, I'm rambling, let's see where I am after 37 days.......my itchy feet just might need scratching a little, not a whole new pair of shoes!

Patti also asks us to make our "bucket list" or list of things you wanted to do as a child but packed away. If you visited this post of mine a few days ago, you will know that I am thinking on this at the moment, and making my list already. How about you? Are you unpacking any boxes right now? I've noticed one or two of my blogging friends already have goal lists or have said that they are setting themselves new goals just lately. Maybe it's the move into spring that's done it? We are all getting a new burst of energy and want to spring clean again.

Happy spring cleaning, if that is what you are up to lately. Mine will be continuing for the next month or two.
