The Trust has a track record of supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into architecture as well as inspiring school children about the built environment. Over 100 bursaries have been awarded and so far 9 students have completed their 7 years to become fully fledged architects – 2 with their own practice.We want to expand this model in order to support talented and driven young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into other professions too – law, finance, medicine, nursing, ITC, journalism and media. This will include:
- Inspiring young people at in schools, preparing them to be leaders of the future and giving practical support through academia and into the professional working environment.
- Supporting business to be leading exemplars of diversity and inclusion, able to recruit and retain diverse talent.

I think one of the most important things we can do for the economy is educate young people. There are a lot of teenagers out there that have so much promise but will never be able to be educated because of lack of funding. It would be a great thing if more governments offered affordable or free education.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that the school system has become so wound up with results statistics, to the detriment of actual education. Kids are taught to pass tests, not taught the things that matter, like caring for themselves, their friends and family and their environments. If they had a reason to learn the ordinary stuff, if they could see why they need to learn maths and English and such, they might be more engaged with their education. And they'd be able to see more of a future.
