I have no words to add really. I am a white woman living in the UK and I can only imagine the rage, sadness and fear today after the killing of George Floyd yesterday. I am sad and angry sitting here and reading all of the posts and hearing the news.
I read somewhere that "there is not more racism in America but there are more videos showing racism happening."
Yesterday I also saw a video of a woman in Central Park being filmed by a Black man as she made a call to the police saying he was being threatening to her and her dog. This was after he had asked her to put her dog on a lead in an area where this was compulsory. The fear of families and individuals just stepping outside the door... I cannot imagine it and I am angry and ashamed.
Again I am speechless and full of disbelief and sorrow that after all these years we are here again with another man killed by the police because he is black. We are calling for justice again. When will it end?
Amnesty International are calling on the US Congress to pass the PEACE Act to limit the use of deadly force which should only be used as a last resort. Whatever I can do I will do. I am so sorry.
