When will we ever learn?

How many times have the Palestinian people been here?

How many times have human beings been here?

Sir Gerald Kaufman, the veteran Labour MP, speaking in 2009 when he compared the actions of Israeli troops in Gaza to the Nazis who forced his family to flee Poland. That cannot have been something he spoke of lightly I am sure. He also speaks of Hamas as a deeply nasty organisation but stressed the need to make peace by talking to your enemies.

  1. I always find wars are more bloody when either side brings god into it. Why are so many of these fights based on religion? Why can't everyone just accept everyone else's beliefs? It's very sad and rather frightening.

  2. Being half Palestinian myself, I do not like the violence on either side but please permit me to say that those particular wars are NOT about religion in the slightest...
Gaza has been turned into a ghetto whose rights have been taken away.... they have been persecuted and humiliated for decades... Freedom flotillas carrying much needed medical care, milk and other basic needs have been banned from reaching the shores of Gaza... olive trees have been uprooted, houses demolished... it has been going on for years...

  3. Actually I heard a radio report where they spoke to key figures on both sides and both were talking about how it's a righteous war and their god was supporting them.

I realise it's political - but they are both still using religion as an excuse.

  4. I am just so sad for the Palestinian people caught up in this again and oppressed for all these years on the West Bank and in Gaza. I am at a loss to understand how Israel feels it is justified to defend themselves in this way, on this scale.
