In honour of today being 29th February, I present a frog chorus. I spotted these characters on Sunday when I was out walking and trying out my new step counter. They are all visiting the pond in our local park, for a little spawning and the like. The sound they are all making just now is quite amazing, like a very large cat purring, and the pond almost looks alive with all of their plopping about.
My video is very poor quality I'm afraid(as are my photographs below), but if you turn your volume right up you can just hear the throbbing, bubbling noise of the numerous visiting froggies all croaking under the water. I am a little bit sad that the sound quality is so poor and that you can hear me crunching about on the gravel path! Ah well. The second video is much more successful (found on youtube), and here is a little bit more information about our froggy friends behaviour at this time of year.
I am taking note of the symbolism associated with the frog, as today I make a leap into contentment.
From: symbolicmeanings.com by Avia VeneficaThe symbolic meaning of the frog deals with Creativity, Fertility, Luck, Cleansing, Intuition and Transformation. Due to the fascinating transitions the Frog goes through in its life, it is a symbol of metamorphosis. Furthermore, the Frog’s dual time spent on land and water represents duality of the soul. The Frog also symbolizes creativity and forward thinking.Frog Animal Totems Facilitate:
- Patience in undergoing life transitions, clarity of thought during transition
- Embracing of personal transformation, welcoming internal morphing
- Jump into creative thought, and leap out of habitual thinking patterns
- Acceptance of our diversity and celebration of our opposite poles found in personality and lifestyle

We call it Sadie Hawkins Day here, and I love the music at your site,,,,,,
ReplyDeleteHaving to google Sadie Hawkins day. Glad you like the music, I wasn't sure if it interfered to much or would make people jump!
DeleteI've always found the sound of frogs comforting. We used to celebrate Sadie Hawkins Day with a dance when I was a teen.
ReplyDeleteYes it is a comforting sound isn't it?
DeleteMy boy, who is 16 now fell in love with frogs before he turned a year old. He did! He has a huge collection of stuffed toys that he will not relinquish though now he keeps them hidden in the closet.
ReplyDeleteWhen he was about 5 he came home with a real live frog and he wanted to keep it so bad. I did not have the heart to say no. He loved it and kept it alive for 2 years! We fed it live crickets and moths that we caught outside.
I have grown to love frogs too. They are lovely creatures. I loved listening to my son's frog at night. We ended up getting more frogs so the first one would not be lonely. In the winter I bought live crickets.
It was so much fun!
I like your new header. I like the music too.
Thanks for that story Birdie. Nice to learn a bit about your son.
DeleteOh this story reminds me of how I collected a toad when I was 6 years of age and kept him in a found tobacco tin. I don't remember what happened to him but I think he hopped out and escaped, lol.
DeleteOh wow... this is a sound we are missing after moving house... wow... there are so many of them... beautiful... I love nature... I am so glad you bought a step counter... motivating isn't it? You go girl!
ReplyDeleteI never heard the sound before Lana. Can you believe that? No frogs near you now? That's a shame.
