On 10 December 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights was adopted by the United Nations. Human Rights Day  has been marked each 10th December since 1950. In 2011 the theme of Human Rights Day is the honouring of all human rights defenders and a call for individuals to get involved in the global human rights movement.
