The great and the small

Yesterday it was 27 years since Nelson Mandela was released from prison. It was 11th February 1990.

He spent the same amount of time imprisoned. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1964.

This news video shared by @matubapressure on Twitter gives a bit of an overview of his legacy, and life in South Africa today.
The anniversary seems to have passed most people by without notice.

My son has just come back from South Africa and brought me this tiny gift back....

I did a bit of exploration about the Library Project and any other projects that need help in South Africa. Like so many other places there is work to be done and however small each of our own actions are, they do make a difference when brought together with everyone else's. There is so much to do.

I've been reading this book since the New Year, and it has seemed timely with the concern all over the world regarding the rise of the far-right. I would recommend it.

As always each of us is striving to be the best version of ourselves we can be. I often am unkind to myself for not doing or being enough. Each thought and unkind word I tell myself is launched into the world, and is not contributing the making the world better. Energy would be better spent on being kind and showing love to myself. On acknowledging the small things I can do, and do do with great love.

  1. I try to improve myself and I wonder what happened to sixty four some years of my life. I guess our youth goes by without us thinking now that I am old, I want to improve. I guess I still have a chance.

  2. Thank you for reading and commenting. I looked at your post about donating books that's a really good idea and I'm going to find out about sending to the school in South Africa my son visited that is starting a library.

  3. Economic problems in their home land is one reason a lot of people want to come to America. It is true that we need to understand rules, regulations and law therefore we need to learn to read and write. I understand where Nelson Mandela was making a point from ( I am translating my thoughts from Hindi to English, LOL).
