July involved lots and lots of work and little sleep. We had to buy a new bed for the spare room just so I could get enough sleep on the days I was working. All due to Mr Greenfinger's snoring may I say!
August. A time for some rest and reflection. Sadly the world lost Robin Williams and we all tried to make sense of his death, and of the world. We continued to watch each day the news reports from Gaza and the Ukraine. It's been a tough few weeks here as a result. I've been tying myself in all sorts of knots which in the end hasn't been at all restful.
"Everything that I said I'd do
Like make the world brand new
And take the time for you
I just got lost and slept right through the dawn
And the world spins madly on".
However, by some miracle, I was reminded early on in September that these feelings and this wallowing was actually a luxury for many and a privilege for me. I'm reminded to be gentle with myself too - "life is f**cking hard no matter where you're situated.".Like make the world brand new
And take the time for you
I just got lost and slept right through the dawn
And the world spins madly on".
That old familiar brick wall I keep on hitting, you know the one? .....when I rounded the corner into August.....there is was again, seeming even taller and wider this time (well I am grown a bit more these days), ..... and I ran straight smack into it again...ouch that felt very sore indeed...must have hit it harder.
Then, after a few weeks, I realised that yes.... I may be feeling a bit bruised and hurt....yes....life(or rather me, myself and I) does seem really, really awful and wrong and not what(or who) I had planned it to be.....but that it was ok, I could work it out, I could get unstuck again, I could keep on keeping on, putting one foot in front of the other....until...until it hurt a bit less, until....until I felt strong again.
Along came the miracle I spoke of.....some words.....a reminder of my privilege....and a reminder to be gentle and loving about it all.
"It’s not that we should not or cannot be upset about the shit in our lives. It just means that it is our responsibility to Own That Shit. To suspend it in front of us, and look at it through a magnifying lens. Many lenses, in fact.
To be the subject of our own analysis. To spend time with the truth inside. Unpack our experiences. Release what no longer fits.
My formula and yours will likely be completely different, but we can certainly compare notes. Figure out what works. Ask for help. Get stuck. Try to get unstuck. It’s a privilege to have the time and head space for that.
My call to action, for those of you who deep down know that you can, is: Use It. Don’t take it for granted. Feel it. Be grateful for the feeling. All that learning and unlearning you’ve got to do, all of those uncomfortable reminders of how far you’ve yet to go… lean in to them. Show up for yourself." - Alex Brown
September's tune might be this one.....
It is taking so long for me to learn but I am slowly learning to spend time with the truth. It is so easy to turn it away but I have been doing that for my whole life and look how that is turning out. I am trying to sit with my anger/grief/depression/sadness.
