It's September already.
August Break 2017 went by in a flash, as I was well and truly into the madness of work life again. This time in a new job and with a slightly different mindset than before. I arrived with full commitment and a new belief that I could
actually do the work I have been trained to do and have been paid to do for the last two years! My self-talk is different and the way I approach my work is different.....more organised, I take more ownership and am more confident. I feel less resentful of the drain the work takes on my time, emotional energy and creatvity.
Whilst this is all very positive, the role itself is no different and it still demands more of my time than I really want to give. Due to many issues, mainly resource issues as the role is funded by the Local Authority and Social Care is one of the areas that increasinly coverted by private businesses who feel that they can do it more efficiently. I remain addicted however. I feel alive when my work is going well. I feel more in my flow. This gives me a buzz as I can feel at these times that I am in my right place. This comes at a price (see last sentence of previous paragraph), as the job becomes busier, I become less "new" and am expected to carry more workload. Sigh. And so the cycle begins again.
August Break this year was therefore both a pleasure and a chore. I wanted to post a photo a day and complete the daily prompts, but my need to be present in my work meant that some days I simply forgot and had to resortposted an old photo to suit the prompt. Ah well. The process allowed me to reflect and try to integrate my "self" with my work self. Also to remember how important it is for me to have a balance between my work and my life. This is all good.

"Work is not a job or what you get paid for- it is what you practice. It is the process of being and doing as you become." -

My employer is pushing us to the absolute limit. I used to love my job but now I just find it rushed and exhausting. It actually coincides with the MLK quote. The bosses look at the dollar signs, the workers the humanity.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Where was the vintage one taken?
Yes you are so right. It's tough for everyone isn't it. The world is full of madness and this is driven by those who want to make a profit. As throughout history. Values and priorities become all skewed.
DeleteThe photo was taken at The Winter Gardens in a nearby seaside town.
I can imagine that there are challenges in your new job because of the expectations of your employers to achieve the goals they've set, issues with resources and an increased workload. I'm glad you were able to participate in the Autumn Break 2017 and you found it helpful and satisfying to do. Your photos are very interesting. I like the mosaic of all the different windows, someone on the beach looking out to sea and the last one taken as you looked up into the canopy of trees.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely yes Linda to stayawake during the busy days and to think about the beauty around me. Glad you enjoyed looking at the photos I always enjoy yours.
DeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI wish we had MLK back today.
Than you Sandi. Yes I wish he was back here too and Nelson Mandela too. However there are lots of great young people out there who will be our leaders of tomorrow. I have a lot of hope for the future although it all looks very bleak right now.
